Ingredients:


  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 2 cups granulated sugar
  • 3/4 cup unsweetened cocoa powder
  • 2 teaspoons baking soda
  • 1 teaspoon baking powder
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1 cup buttermilk
  • 1/2 cup vegetable oil
  • 2 large eggs
  • 2 teaspoons vanilla extract
  • 1 cup hot water

Instructions:

  1. Preheat the oven to 350°F (180°C). Grease and flour two 9-inch (23cm) round cake pans.
  2. In a mixing bowl, combine flour, sugar, cocoa powder, baking soda, baking powder, and salt. Mix well.
  3. In a separate bowl, whisk together buttermilk, vegetable oil, eggs, and vanilla extract until well combined.
  4. Add the wet ingredients to the dry ingredients and mix until just combined.
  5. Add the hot water and mix again until well combined. The batter will be thin.
  6. Pour the batter evenly into the prepared cake pans.
  7. Bake for 30-35 minutes or until a toothpick inserted into the center of the cake comes out clean.
  8. Let the cakes cool in the pans for 10 minutes, then remove from the pans and transfer to a wire rack to cool completely.
  9. Frost the cake with your favorite frosting and serve.
